This year's season spans the globe in setting and playwrights - from classic Italian commedia to a re-envisioned Greek underworld, through a journey play by an award-winning Cuban-American playwright and a new multi-media work set in Emily Dickinson's New England. Themes of identity and personal evolution weave through these tales of deception, love, loss, passion and transcendence, life and death. Squires Studio Theatre
Hilarious high jinks ensue in classic Commedia dell'Arte fashion in this new play written by Marco Luly, our guest artist-in-residence from Italy. The fun begins when Harlequin arrives at the Dottore's house and feigns to be a cadaver for an autopsy then visits patients giving medicine and remedies. Replete with lovers, servants, old men, ladies, doctors, fake doctors, and not a few cases of mistaken identity, it's sure to be a delightful evening. Directed by David Johnson.

Squires Studio Theatre
The classic Orpheus myth is retold through the eyes of Eurydice in this magical play filled with visual allure, ingenious twists, and emotional potency by an inventive young playwright. With strong lyrical writing and the cockeyed imagry of a surrealist painting, Eurydice draws you into its strange currents and provides a quirky contemporary meditatiion on the age-old theme of love and loss. Squires Studio Theatre
This 1988 Obie Award winner for best new work explores themes of identity and passion through the journey of a lost young woman seeking safety in marriage to an older man.
When she outgrows her admiration for her husband, she begins to look elsewhere for love in an early 20th century world that offers few choices for women.
Through this rich and poetically written work, Fornes reveals that a society without freedom is a world doomed to destroy itself. Bob Leonard directs. Read more about Fornes and this play.
The Department of Theatre Arts in association with the Foreign Language Department will remount Abingdon Square as part of the international Latin American Theatre Festival on campus March 26-29.

Obie Award-winning director and new faculty member Bob McGrath makes his VT debut with an original multi-media music/theatre work based on the poetry and letters of Emily Dickinson. Music, screen projections, and theatrical staging will highlight the Civil War era writings of this reclusive, yet expansive, American poet.
The Virginia Tech production is a mainstage workshop leading to NYC premiere at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
